Everyone needs quick and easy access to the internet in and out of the home for countless reasons, especially seniors. Without it, you can’t connect to GPS to help you find and get to certain places, read customer reviews, stay updated on world news, watch Netflix, listen to Spotify music, and so much more. Many jobs nowadays totally rely on internet connection as well.

However, monthly internet bills can get a bit pricey, and for seniors living on a fixed income or a tight budget, this can become a problem for their pockets. But the good news is, there are several internet providers that offer special deals and discounts that senior citizens can benefit from. However, it’s important to note that some providers may not operate in your area, and overall service quality and speed may differ based on your location.

Trying to find the best internet plan can make your head spin, but no need to stress. You’ve come to the right place. We’ve put together a list of the best internet plans for seniors in 2023.

Cox Communications - ConnectAssist Plan

Cox has had a neat discount program for years called “Connect2Compete”, aimed at low- or fixed-income families. But back in 2021, they stepped up their game and introduced “ConnectAssist”, which is geared toward low-income households without children. Several senior program beneficiaries are eligible for this plan, including Veterans Pension, Supplemental Security Income and Medicaid.m

If your household qualifies, you can receive a 100Mbps plan, including a free modem, access to 3 million Wi-Fi hotspots across the country, and unlimited data for 12 months. After that, the data cap of 1.25TB kicks in for just $30 a month. Plus, no contract is required. All in all, it’s a pretty sweet deal per anyone’s standards.

Verizon - Forward / Fios Plan

With a starting price of just $49.99 per month, Verizon’s base-level fiber optic internet plan gives you excellent speeds for a small or mid-sized household. It’s more than sufficient to allow smooth 4K streaming and to play online games on several devices. You also get equally fast upload speeds, perfect for Zoom meetings, social media, and uploading big files to cloud servers.

Seniors signed up for the federal Lifeline program can save $10 a month on any Verizon Fios plan offered at their address. Even more impressively, if you are a participant in the Affordable Connectivity Program, you may be eligible to receive free internet through Fios Forward, including all fees and router costs. However, in order to qualify, you must have a Fios Mix & Match plan and be approved for the ACP.

To check if Verizon’s fiber optic internet is available where you live, simply type in your zip code on their website to find out.

Astound Broadband - First Plan

If you’re looking for decent, attractive and super affordable cable internet deals, then make a beeline straight to Astound Broadband’s “Internet First” Plan.
Astound’s largest cable internet service area operates in the Northeast, happily serving New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, a few Pennsylvania counties, and Washington, DC. They also provide cable internet in Chicago, Texas, and along the west coast. Additionally, they also provide some fiber optic in Texas as well.

While the 50 Mbps download speed of this Astound plan may not be as fast and impressive as the Cox or Verizon plans, their Internet First costs $10 per month and is still a great choice if you live alone or with a partner. Better yet, Astound Broadband frequently offers promotions and coupons that include installation at no extra cost, and they’ve got multiple modem rental options to choose from, ranging from fairly cheap to just a tad more expensive.

But that’s not all. No contracts or credit checks are required for this plan, and they give you the first 60 days totally free. Who could say no to that?

Xfinity - Essentials Plan

If you’re looking for a simple, effective and super low cost package plan, this one from Xfinity may be the right one for you. The main factor that sets Xfinity apart from its many competitors is that they provide service in many cities all across the US, instead of just one general area.

Seniors participating in Medicaid or SSI, or receiving a VA pension, may be eligible for the Internet Essentials plan, which features up to 50Mbps download speeds for just $10 a month. No credit check is required and participants also get free access to Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots. There’s also an option to upgrade your speed to 100Mbps for just $30 extra per month, with similar terms and perks included.

Optimum - Advantage Plan

This internet package from Optimum is available for seniors aged 65 and up who receive SSI, and for US military veterans receiving state or federal assistance. Advantage features up to 50Mbps download speeds for $15 a month. While the 50 Mbps download speed may not be the greatest of speeds out there and you may not be able to watch 4k quality movies, it has several other perks that make it worth your while, such as free installation, unlimited data and a free modem/router combo.
